FAQ

WHAT IS HARD WATER?

Hard water is water that contains many dissolved minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese.Water naturally becomes hard as it moves through the water cycle on its way to your tap. According to the Water Quality Association, water that contains more than 1GPG or PPM of these dissolved minerals is considered hard water.

Hard water is one of the most common residential problems. Hard water can leave spots on your glasses and dishes, makes laundry dull and rough, and can cause soap scum and scale to build up around showers, sinks, and faucets, which can make cleaning a chore. Hard water can also build up inside your plumbing, as well as appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, traditional water heaters, and new tankless water heaters.

WHAT IS SOFT WATER?

Soft water is water that contains few or no dissolved minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and manganese.

Water softening involves a process called "ion exchange", which removes dissolved minerals that can't be trapped by a standard filter. Softeners use resin beads with sodium ions attached to the resin. As water enters the tank, dissolved minerals are attracted to the resin. The resin exchanges the sodium for the dissolved minerals and the water is then free of these impurities.

WHY IS IRON A PROBLEM IN MY WATER?

Iron or or rust in water can be found in five different forms. The two most common types are clean water iron and particle iron (rust). These will cause staining in your tubs, sinks, laundry and can even damage your hair. The other three types are iron bacteria, organic iron, and colloidal iron. These will result reddish stains and may cause water to have a sulphur (rotten egg) odour or tea colored appearance. Aquarius offers many different products to eliminate iron.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A WATER SOFTENER?

A water softener removes harsh minerals commonly found in hard water, leaving you with soft, mineral free water that is gentler on everything that uses water. Some benefits around the house include:

Appliances work more efficiently and last longer.

No hard water build-up in your dishwasher, hot water heater, washing machine, coffee makers, etc..

No more staining of sinks, faucets, shower doors, fixtures.

Improved laundry quality; brighter, fresher clothes. Softer laundry, linens and towels.

SAVE UP TO 50% ON ALL HOUSEHOLD CLEANING AGENTS.

WHAT ARE THE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY BENEFITS TO A SOFTENER?

Reduces chemicals used around your house.

Minimizes dirty water discharge, dishwashers and washing machines require less detergents and soaps.

Uses less energy- Less energy required to heat water.

ARE THERE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF WATER SOFTENER DISCHARGES ON HOUSEHOULD SEPTIC SYSTEMS?

According to the Water Quality Association, water softener regeneration discharges do not pose a problem to property-sized septic systems or to the leach field. Studies have shown that water softener regeneration wastes do not interfere with the septic tank system drain field soil percolation, and actually could improve soil percolation, particularly in fine-textured soils.

WHAT IS REVERSE OSMOSIS?

Reverse Osmosis is a filtration process where water molecules are forced through a semi-permeable membrane under high pressure. The membrane only allows water molecules to pass through, filtering the water by reducing specified contaminants such as Arsenic, barium, chromium, radium 226/228, as well as micro-organisms such as cryptosporidium and giardia.

RO water filtration is a technologically advanced process that provides one of the most effective way to filter water.

HOW MUCH WATER SHOULD I DRINK EACH DAY?

Water is crucial to maintaining a healthy, well-functioning body, regulating all organs and temperature, dissolved solids, and moving nutrients throughout the body.

Most adults need about eight to 12 eight-ounce glasses of water daily depending on age, activity level, etc..

IS RO WATER REALLY AS GOOD AS BOTTLED WATER?

Yes, Aquarius Reverse Osmosis Systems remove about 97% of the total dissolved solids (TDS) from your water, including salt and sodium. Read the labels on most bottled water and you will discover Reverse Osmosis is used by most bottlers. The only difference is the is no hassle of plastic bottles.

ARE PLASTIC BOTTLES BAD TO DRINK FROM?

Yes, Bishphenol-A is a chemical found in plastic water bottles and is harmful to all living organisms, especially when exposed to heat and sunlight.

Even the plastic substitute has been linked to health issues.
