Water Problems

Water staining can be a result of many different minerals present in your household water. The first step is to do a proper water analysis to determine what problems exist. There are many filtration solutions available depending on the certain minerals/elements present and to what degree.

Here are some of the common problems we encounter on Vancouver Island.

Water Hardness Problems

 - also known as calcium, which produces white staining on all your fixtures and will cause scale build up throughout all your household appliances.

Iron water problems

- can be present in water in two forms; the soluble ferrous iron or the insoluble ferric iron. Water containing ferrous iron is clear and colorless, and when exposed to air the water turns cloudy causing a reddish brown precipitate of ferric iron it appear, also known as rust.

Before you invest in attempting to remove anything that appears to be iron-related, it is important to have your water tested. Once you determine whether the iron is organic or inorganic, proper steps can be taken to correct the problem, as these two types of iron issues are dealt with differently.

Sulfur water problems

- is a condition where the water contains a high amount of hydrogen sulfide gas that escapes into the air when a tap is opened, giving off a distinct "rotten egg" smell. It is not advisable to drink water with high levels of sulfur.
